HENRY COUNTY, VA. — Authorities are investigating the death of a twenty-year-old college student after her body was discovered partially buried in a wooded area of rural Henry County earlier this week.

The victim has been identified as Gracie Adams, 20. Investigators say her body was found by three local boys who had entered the woods near an isolated clearing Tuesday evening.

According to investigators, the teenagers initially noticed disturbed dirt and what appeared to be a shallow mound partially hidden beneath leaves and debris. One of the boys reportedly saw what looked like a shoe protruding from the ground before the group uncovered part of a human hand beneath the soil.

Authorities say the boys immediately contacted law enforcement after discovering the body. Deputies arriving at the scene described the area as heavily wooded and difficult to access, with portions of the crime scene still taped off days later.

Preliminary evidence indicates Adams suffered a fatal wound to the throat. Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, but confirmed the case is being investigated as a homicide.

“This remains an active investigation and we are continuing to follow all available leads.”

Adams was reportedly attending college in Virginia at the time of her death. Friends and classmates described her as outgoing, creative, and well-liked among peers.

The discovery has deeply unsettled residents throughout the area, particularly because of similarities between Adams’ death and two other recent homicide investigations involving young women in Virginia. Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether the cases are connected.

Detectives continued searching the wooded area Thursday, combing through brush and surrounding terrain for evidence. Several law enforcement vehicles remained stationed near the entrance to the site while investigators worked behind yellow police tape.

Residents living near the wooded property described the area as normally quiet, frequented mostly by hunters, hikers, and local teenagers. News of the discovery spread quickly through the county after details emerged about how the body was found.

“Those kids are never going to forget what they saw,” said one resident who lives nearby. “It’s horrifying to think about.”

Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the wooded area in recent weeks to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Anonymous tips are also being accepted.

No arrests have been made.
